How to Build a Strong Social Media Strategy for Your Business

digital marketing

You should know quite well by now that social media is here to stay! So, if your business isn’t utilizing this inexpensive, simple form of digital marketing, you’re missing out. Here’s how you can get started.

Take a Look at What You’re Already Doing

If you already have some social media accounts, take a look to see where you’re getting the most engagement. If you hardly get any likes on Twitter but get a ton of love on Facebook and Instagram, you know where to concentrate more of your efforts.

You’ll also want to look at the type of posts that get the most engagement. Pictures with questions and posts often get more comments and likes than those which don’t. However, do an audit on your posts to see what’s working for you.

Figure Out Your Target Market

We’ve told you before about how important it is to know your target market. It’s not a good idea to try to market to absolutely everyone, so by marketing to the people who will buy and use your products and services, you’re more likely to get a positive return.

If you’re not sure who your target market is, start by using persona marketing to fit the one person you’re trying to market to. This will provide you with great insight into who you want to market to and where to find people like that online.

Although you may be getting lots of likes on Facebook, if your target market hangs out on Instagram and Snapchat, you may want to change your focus to those channels. Don’t forget about your Facebook fans, but don’t cater to them if they’re not your target.

Check Out Your Competition

It certainly can’t hurt to check out your competition online. See what they’re doing and who’s engaging with them. Obviously, you don’t want to copy them — but you can gain some valuable information about where to focus your attention. They can also provide you with inspiration on how to be more effective online.

Set Goals

Figure out what you want to accomplish from your social media. This may (and probably should!) differ from network to network.

If you’re looking to send traffic to your site, create an incentive to head over (and don’t forget the link to make it easy!). If you’re looking to create awareness and grow your brand, you’ll want to give your followers a reason to engage and share your posts. And if you’re looking to create some fun, you can use polls, questions, surveys, and contests.

Know what you want to accomplish on each of these networks before you start. And plan out your posts in a cohesive way.

Keep Your Branding Cohesive

Although social media uses different networks, your branding must be cohesive across all your channels — digital and print marketing.

Use the same logos and wording so your brand is recognizable whenever and wherever your customers see you.

Keep Track of Your Analytics

To continue effectively marketing across your social media channels, you need to know what’s working and what needs to be tweaked. So utilizing marketing analytics is vital! You can find all levels of analytic services, which let you know which types of posts are more effective than others. It will also show you which days and times are optimal for you so you’ll know how to proceed.
