Sending out an email newsletter is a great way to share information about your products, services, and other updates to your clients.
And because there are now so many other digital marketing options to get information out there, you don’t want people to skim — or worse, skip — your newsletter. So, isn’t it a great time to refresh your newsletter?
Polish Your Branding
Before you do anything, take this opportunity to polish up your branding – as well as the cohesion in your marketing. Make sure the message behind your brand shines through in all your marketing — especially your newsletter.
Keep logos and colours the same throughout all your marketing. And make sure the motivation and passion behind your business are evident in your newsletters.
Look at Your Analytics
If you don’t already know, there are ways to see how many people are actually reading your newsletter. Checking your analytics shows you who’s opened your newsletter and how long they’ve looked at it. It also gives you great insight into which parts of your newsletter received the most click-throughs and what parts are getting the most eyes on it.
Consider Your Content
Once you use your analytics to see what people are loving — and not loving — about your newsletter, it may be time to change up your content a bit. Is it time for a contest? Or should you consider asking your customers to participate in a short survey? For instance, ask them what they’re looking for precisely from your newsletter. If you do this, give your customers an incentive for filling it out, like a coupon code or some other small prize.
People love pictures. So, if you’re not including any or even enough images throughout your newsletter, your readers may be getting bored. This may be an excellent time to add in some video marketing as well. Keep your videos short, sweet, and to the point.
We’re sure you’re already giving your customers great content, but you should always be striving for better!
Check Out Your Competition
You should always be keeping an eye on what your competitors are up to. We’re not advocating stealing anyone’s content — but you may be able to get an idea or two for your own newsletter based on what’s working for them.
Clean Up Your List
Chances are you have a lot of bounce back in your emails. That’s totally normal over time as people abandon or change their email addresses. It’s a bit of a daunting task but unsubscribe these people from your list. There may be some inexpensive or even free services you can use to clean up your list.
Encourage New Subscribers
Now that you’ve cleaned up your email list, it’s time to add some fresh new subscribers!
Promote your newsletter on your other social media channels and your website. You may want to consider giving people an incentive to join your list. A discount code to use on their next order, or the chance to win a prize, are incentives that generally work well.
